Full-Time Police Officer

The Cedar Grove Police Department will be seeking to hire for the position of Full-Time Police Officer.  We are looking for hard-working, dedicated and energetic individuals for our police department. The Cedar Grove Police Department is comprised of officers who are community oriented and who take pride in their proactive response to crime, and quality of life issues.  We currently employ 29 Full-Time Police Officers.

Job Responsibilities:

• Exercise authority consistent with the obligations imposed by the oath of office.
• Abide by all rules, regulations and department procedures and directives governing police officer employees.
• Be accountable and responsible to their supervisor for obeying all lawful orders.
• Conduct themselves in accordance with high ethical standards, on and off-duty.
• Perform their duties courteously, promptly, faithfully and diligently.
• Take appropriate action to protect life and property, preserve the peace, remain a visible to deterrence to crime, detect and arrest violators of the law, enforce all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances coming within department jurisdiction, safeguard the rights of individuals as provided by the United States Constitution and Constitution of the State of New Jersey, safely and expeditiously regulate traffic, aid citizens in matters within police jurisdiction and all other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Must be between the ages of 21 and 35 years of age;
• Must be a resident of New Jersey and a citizen of the United States;
• Be an Alternate Route police academy graduate, or a Class II Special Officer waiver eligible, or a currently employed full time sworn officer, and possess a minimum of 30 college credits;
• Ability to perform all the tasks and duties of a Police Officer;
• Possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license;
• No indictable criminal history conviction and of good moral character.

Hiring Process:

• The department will accept résumés from potential candidates
• Selected candidates will go before an interview panel.
• Candidates selected to continue in the process will be asked to submit an application.
• Complete and pass a thorough background investigation.
• Complete and pass a psychological and medical examination to include a drug screening.
