NJ PTC Certified/Licensed Police Officer
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a citizen of the United States and reside in New Jersey.
- Must be at least 21 years of age, at time of appointment and less than 35 years of age.
- Must possess a valid New Jersey driver's license.
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Must be of sound moral character verified by a background investigation.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language, intelligently.
- Must be in good physical condition.
- Must not have been convicted of any crime, disorderly person's offense or felony offense in any other jurisdiction that involved moral turpitude.
- Shall NOT be a member of any group that advocates for the overthrow of the government or discrimination or violence against any protected class of people.
- Must possess a certification for Basic Course for Police Officers from a New Jersey Police Academy or currently attending a police academy in New Jersey (alternate route) or possess a SLEO II certification that is waiver eligible.
***SLEO II Recruits who are currently attending a NJ Police Academy are NOT eligible to apply. Also, the NJ Police Training Commission sets forth requirements for eligibility for waivers for the Basic Course for Police Officers (BCPO). SLEO II will be waiver eligible for a BCPO waiver class after completing one (1) year from their academy graduation date, per the New Jersey Police Training Commission. After three (3) years from the issued date of SLEO II certification, you may not be waiver eligible. If you have any questions regarding waiver eligibility, please contact the NJ Police Training Commission before submitting an application.
NJ PTC Physical Fitness Assessment - SLEO II Waivers
***A SLEO II waiver applicant, if selected, will be required to pass the NJ PTC Physical Fitness Assessment in order to be accepted into a police academy waiver class. The ability to pass the physical fitness assessment will be a condition of employment for a SLEO II waiver. The selected waiver applicant may be subjected to perform the physical fitness assessment prior to being sent to a NJ Police Academy for the Physical Fitness Assessment. The minimum passing test requirements include the following: Vertical Jump - Minimum of 15"; 1 Minute Sit-up - minimum of 28 repetitions; 1 Minute Push-Up - Minimum 24 Repetitions; 300 Meter Run - 70.1 Seconds or Less; and 1.5 Mile Run - 15:55 Minutes or Less.

BENEFITS
- Competitive Salary - Starting salary for certified police officers is $58,000.
- Extra Duty Jobs - Outside employment jobs ($85 an hour, $105, after 8 hours and for emergency road work) and traffic grants (DWI, Click-it-or-Ticket, and Distracted Driving details).
- Annual Uniform Allowance - $850 for Patrol / $950 for Detectives.
- Schedule - 12-Hour Pitman Patrol (Every other weekend off) and Administration (Detectives) work Mon - Fri (8 hour shift)s.

- Pension Retirement System (PFRS) – 30 years for a full pension
