SALARY
Starting- $45,711 (Academy rate) or $54,282 (PTC Certified).
2025 top base pay for police officer: $154,269.
ABOUT THE BOROUGH of LEONIA
Population 9,200
Approximately 10,000 calls for service annually
Located approximately one mile from the George Washington Bridge
All officers in the department possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree
Currently authorized for 20 sworn police officers
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a resident of New Jersey and a citizen of the United States
Must be at least 21 years of age
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited 4 year College
Read, write and speak English
Be of good moral character and free of conviction of any crime constituting an indictable offense or any crime or offense involving moral turpitude
Must pass an oral, medical exam, psychological, medical and drug testing examinations and meet essential job functions.
Possess a valid NJ driver's license
Meet the requirements of and be eligible for membership in the PFRS
TESTING REQUIREMENTS
Panel interviews by Command Staff of the Police Department, Police Committee and Mayor (3 separate interviews).
