Our department serves a community of approximately 60,000 residents, with over 100,000 calls for service annually. North Bergen is a main corridor for travelers due to its proximity to New York and we employ approximately 160 officers across multiple divisions to patrol and maintain the safety of our community.
The North Bergen Police Department is an accredited law enforcement agency with opportunities for growth. Our agency provides you all the training and information you need to become a well-educated police officer.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a United States Citizen.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Must have a High School diploma or GED.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
Job Description/General Duties:
Duties of the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigation Unit, Community Relations Unit, School Resource Officers, along with traffic enforcement, report writing, dispatching and maintaining the safety and integrity of our community.
Testing Requirements:
- Physical assessment where candidates must meet the New Jersey Police Training Commission's minimum requirements.
- In person written essay that demonstrates literacy.
Hiring Process:
- Physical assessment where candidates must meet the New Jersey Police Training Commission's minimum requirements.
- Personal History Questionnaire.
- Backgound Investigation
- Interview (with in person written essay that demonstrates literacy.)
- Drug Testing
- Medical and Psychological Evaluation
- Academy Training
