STARTING SALARY $47,000 to $89,000
TOP OFFICER SALARY $136,221 (*IN 2026) 8 STEPS
GENERAL DUTIES
The South Bound Police Department is looking for candidates for the position of police officer who are intelligent, possess good report writing skills, good verbal communication skills, strong problem-solving ability, are community oriented, and who have a good work ethic.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- NJPTC Basic Course for Police Officer Certification Required or currently enrolled in Basic Course for Police Officer
- At least 18 years of age and less than 35 years of age by the time of appointment
- Must be a United States citizen and a New Jersey resident at the time of appointment
- Valid NJ Driver's license at time of appointment
- Demonstrate good physical condition and the ability to perform the duties of a police officer
- Must not have ever been convicted of any crime of the first, second, third or fourth degree, as designated by the Criminal Code of New Jersey, or a crime or felony offense in any other jurisdiction that involved moral turpitude or, at the time of application, is undergoing or awaiting court action of any kind in regard to such a crime or felony offense.
- Must pass background, medical, and psychological exams
- Must be of good moral character

Starting salary is dependent upon the provisions of the current collective bargaining agreement; which is currently $47,000. Years of experience as a full-time Police Officer in the State of New Jersey may be considered to increase starting salary up to, but not exceeding $89,000. Top officer salary is $136,221 in 2026. There are currently 8 steps to reach top salary.
