RECRUITING ANNOUNCEMENT
The City of Woonsocket, Rhode Island is holding open competitive examinations to establish an eligibility list for the position of Police Officer
APPLICATIONS:
- Step 1 - Applications must be submitted online via policeapp.com. There is a $35 administrative fee from policeapp.com.
- Step 2 - Applicants must register for the written and fitness tests. Woonsocket PD uses a third-party testing service for the written test and physical test. Applicants are responsible for the associated costs. Information regarding the upcoming testing dates will be provided in the confirmation email once your application is submitted.
- Government-issued identification is required throughout this process.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO APPLY:
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must be a US citizen
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Minimum of a high school diploma, or equivalent
- Have no felony convictions
SALARY SALARY:
- Probationary salary rate: $890.30 per week
- Salary rate after probation: $1,217.61 per week / Step 2 - $1,241.97
- Paid vacation, paid holidays, sick leave, medical and dental insurance, and longevity incentive, overtime opportunities
WRITTEN TEST
Applicant must schedule through a third-party testing service (information will be provided upon receiving of application).
Passing written examinations from Fit2serve are good for two years of the closing date. Candidates must provide a certified passing written examination from our third-party testing service dated October 6, 2021, or later. Failure to pass the Written Exam with a 70 or above shall prevent an applicant from advancing in the selection process.
FITNESS ASSESSMENT
Applicant must schedule through a third-party testing service (information will be provided upon receiving of application).
You must bring the completed Fitness Test Medical Certificate and Waiver and Assumption of Risk Assessment Form for the physical agility test. You will not be allowed to take the agility test without these forms completed.

ORAL BOARD
Applicants who pass the written and fitness assessments will be scheduled for an Oral Board interview in October 2023. The oral board will take place at the Woonsocket Police Department, 242 Clinton St., Woonsocket, RI 02895.
FINAL LIST
Applicants who complete these stages will be placed on an eligibility list.
BACKGROUND CHECK
Applicants on the eligibility list are subject to an extensive background check. The background check consists of an integrity interview and a thorough examination of the candidate’s personal history, including employment, education, family, character references, credit, military service, encounters with law enforcement, and any other areas as directed. Candidates may be removed from the eligibility list as a result of the background check.
PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING & MEDICAL SCREENING
Candidates must pass psychological and medical examinations.
ENTRANCE FITNESS ASSESSMENT
Candidates must also pass a fitness assessment by the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy at a date to be determined by the RIMPTA.
