NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR ENTRY LEVEL FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER
Full-Time Police Officer (Alternate Route Hiring Process)
The Ventnor City Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Full-Time Police Officer through the Alternate Route hiring process.
Please Note: This recruitment is not intended for currently employed, New Jersey Basic Course for Police Officers (BCPO) certified police officers seeking a lateral transfer. Those applicants are not eligible for this hiring process.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a United States Citizen.
- Must be a resident of New Jersey at the time of appointment.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must not be above the age of 35 on the start date of the police academy
- Must possess a High School Diploma or State-issued GED.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language proficiently.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
- Must have no criminal convictions and be of good moral character.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- Not currently certified as a New Jersey Basic Course for Police Officers (BCPO) graduate. Applicants selected for employment will be required to successfully complete a New Jersey Basic Course for Police Officers Academy.
OR
- Be a New Jersey Special Law Enforcement Officer Class II (SLEO II) who successfully completed a commingled New Jersey Basic Course for Police Officers Academy and is eligible for appointment as a full-time police officer.
Current full-time New Jersey BCPO-certified police officers are not eligible to apply through this recruitment.
Selection Process
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be required to successfully complete a physical fitness assessment prior to being invited for an oral interview. The assessment includes, at a minimum:
- Vertical Jump: 15 inches
- Sit-Ups: 28 in one minute
- 300-Meter Run: 70.1 seconds or less
- Push-Ups: 24 in one minute
- 1.5-Mile Run: 15 minutes, 55 seconds or less
Applicants who successfully advance through the selection process must also complete a comprehensive background investigation, medical examination, drug screening, and psychological evaluation as conditions of employment.
