Requirements:
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Be a resident of the state of NJ at time of appointment
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Have a valid N.J. Drivers License
- MUST have Basic Course for Police Officers Certification from the New Jersey Police Training Commission (NJPTC), or will be graduating soon from the Alternate Route Candidate program. Preference given to veterans and/or college graduates.
Candidates must successfully complete various fitness for duty assessments, including:
- a comprehensive background investigation
- a psychological evaluation
- a medical examination
Experience:
Must have at least two years of work and/or life experience directly relating to a minimum of two of the following areas:
- Community service/involvement
- Interviewing, public speaking, and conflict resolution skills
- Problem solving, using creative methods to resolve issues
- Multi-cultural work and life experiences
