The Tenafly Police Department is happy to announce the application process for probationary police officer is now open.

The general qualifications for employment with the Tenafly Police Department are:

• Be a citizen of the United States and a resident of the State of New Jersey;
• Have a valid New Jersey Drivers License (upon appointment);
• Candidates must be between the age of 18-35 (must be appointed prior to 35th birthday).
• Candidates must also meet the following educational, military, and/or employment experience requirements prior to appointment: 

1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university; or 
2. Associate’s Degree (or an equivalent of 60 college credits completed) plus a minimum of 24 months of satisfactory military or sworn law enforcement experience; or 
3. A minimum of 24 months Active Duty military experience with an Honorable Discharge.

• Prior police training or certification is not mandatory, but will be considered;
• Candidates must possess good moral character and a strong work ethic;
• Candidates must be in good mental and bodily health;
• Candidates must pass a background check, and be free from conviction of any crime;
• Candidates must serve a probationary period pending his or her completion of a basic police training course at a recognized training academy.

All application forms must be completed and returned to our agency no later than Monday, May 11, 2015 at 6:00PM. There is a $75.00 non-refundable fee (check or money order, payable to “The Borough of Tenafly”) to participate in the exam, due at the time the application is submitted.

Only the first 300 completed applications will be accepted.
