Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent, with advanced study in Criminal Justice or related field preferred; experience in a law enforcement related field OR any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skill and abilities.
- Knowledge of modern police practices, techniques, and methods
- Knowledge of controlling laws, ordinances and court decisions; thorough Knowledge of the geography of the Town, and the rules and regulations of the department;
- Knowledge of crime scene interpretation; safeguarding and preserving evidence; ability to obtain information through interview and interrogation;
- Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper courses of action;• Ability to speak and write effectively;
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees, Town officials, and the public;
- Ability to instruct successfully
- Skilled in the use of, care of and the ability to utilize department issued firearm(s).
Job Description/General Duties:
A Patrol Officer shall be responsible for the efficient performance of his duties in conformance with rules, regulations and policies contained in this Manual, as well as General Orders, Special Orders, policies and procedures, directives and law.
Serves as a Patrol Officer performing responsible law enforcement duties, including patrol, investigation, traffic control, and a variety of other duties designed to preserve peace and order to protect life and property in the Town. This position summary covers both full and part time personnel.
(Patrol Officers with ten years of continuous service to the Swanzey Police Department shall be authorized to wear the Master Patrolman insignia on their uniform sleeves.)
