POLICE OFFICER RECRUITMENT

The Town of Swansea is currently seeking to establish a list to hire full-time police officers. The Swansea Police Department in conjunction with the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association (MCOPA) will be conducting a written examination ON-LINE on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at 8:00am.
Those who successfully pass the written examination may then apply. Applications must be completed ON-LINE by Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at 11:59pm.
Upon successfully passing the written examination, and completing the application by the due date, candidates will be required to complete a physical agility test (PAT) which will be administered by CHIP. The PAT is based on the Municipal Police Training Council (MPTC) standards and includes a One Minute Pushup Test, 30 Second Plank Exercise, 1.5 Mile Run and 300 Meter Sprint. Candidates must meet the 30% on all four events in order to be considered passing.
There will be a CHIP test held at Case High School, 70 School St., Swansea, MA. and individuals who pass the written test will be notified of the date by email. Qualifications/Requirements:
- Applicants must be U.S. Citizens
- 21 years of age or older at the time of the written examination,
- Must have at least 60 college credits; and/or
- 2 years active military service and/or
- 4 years National Guard/Reserve Service while possessing GED or High School diploma
- Must be eligible to obtain a Massachusetts Class A license to carry a firearm
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Be able to pass an oral interview, background investigation, medical examination, psychological and MPTC Academy
- Be able to obtain and maintain Massachusetts POST Commission Certification
Salary/Benefits:
- Patrol Officers Pay is $78,792 plus MA Police Career Incentive Pay Program: Associates Degree: 10%, Bachelor’s Degree: 20%, Master’s Degree 25%
- Work Schedule: Rotating 4 days on, 2 days off

Job Description/General Duties:
A patrol officer shall be responsible for the efficient performance of required duties in conformance with the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the department.
The duties of an officer shall consist of, but are not limited to, a number of general police responsibilities necessary to the stability and safety of the community. A patrol officer is expected to:
- Identify criminal offenders and criminal activity and, where appropriate apprehend offenders and participate in subsequent court proceedings.
- Reduce the opportunities for the commission of crime through preventive patrol and other measures.
- Assist individuals who are in danger of physical harm.
- Facilitate the movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
- Identify problems that are potentially serious law enforcement or governmental problems.
- Create and maintain a feeling of safety in the community.
- Promote and preserve the peace.
- Provide other services on an emergency basis.
- Perform other duties as required by the Chief of Police.
