Compensation & Benefits
- Starting Probationary Officer Salary: $62,424.00
- Take-Home Patrol Vehicle with off-duty use within a 50-mile radius of the city center
- All uniforms and equipment provided
- $1,000 annual clothing allowance
- 12-hour shifts with every other weekend off

Minimum Application Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be a United States citizen
- Be a high school graduate or possess an equivalent credential
- Be at least 21 years of age and not yet 40 years of age at the time of appointment if not currently enrolled in the 1977 Indiana PERF Retirement System
- Military veterans with 20 or more years of active service may qualify if under 40 years and 6 months of age
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Have the legal ability to possess a firearm
- Have no felony convictions
- Meet all state and federal employment requirements
- Comply with all Shelbyville Police Department hiring and academic standards
- Meet the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board Physical Fitness Standards

Application & Hiring Process

Applicants will be scheduled for a written examination and physical agility test, both conducted on the same date. Applicants who successfully pass both tests will be scheduled for an interview with the Shelbyville Police Department Hiring Board.
Selected applicants will receive a conditional offer of employment or be placed on an eligibility list ranked by score. All applicants are subject to a thorough background investigation. Failure to meet Shelbyville Police Department standards will result in removal from the process. Final appointment is contingent upon: Successful medical and psychological evaluations, acceptance by the Indiana Public Safety Retirement Fund (INPRS), completion of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Basic Course, and successful completion of the Field Training Program within the first year of employment.
