RAMSEY POLICE DEPARTMENT
NOW HIRING FOR THE POSITION OF POLICE OFFICER
Opening and closing period 10/01/2024-10/24/2024
The Ramsey Police Department is accepting applications for the position of full-time police officer. Applicants for the position must meet the qualifications, listed below, before the time of appointment. Qualified candidates, who successfully negotiate the selection process, may have the opportunity to begin at a salary step that is commensurate with work experience, certifications, knowledge, skills and abilities.
Selection process
The selection process will consist of the following:
- A complete review of all uploaded documents
- Verification of qualification requirements
- A physical fitness test
-A series of interviews with ascending panels of police department personnel and the governing body, during which we may request completion of a writing sample.
- Successful completion of a background investigation, medical exam, employment psychological examination and drug test.
The Ramsey Police Department reserves the right to contact any current and former employer once a conditional offer of employment is provided.
PHASE 1
The Health-Fitness & Motor Fitness test is scheduled for 10/26/2024 and will be conducted at Golz Chiropractic Center (794 Franklin Ave. #204 Franklin Lakes, NJ 07417) starting at 1200 hours. The 1.5 mile run will be conducted immediately after, at the Bergen County Law & Public Safety Institute (281 Campgaw Road Mahwah, NJ 07430.) You must bring the PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT PAPERWORK or you will not be eligible to take the physical test. The required clothing for the physical agility test is as follows:
Running shoes or equivalent, shorts sleeve shirt or equivalent, exercise shorts or sweatpants, and a sweatshirt.
PHASE 2
Those who qualify for Phase 2 (Interviews) of the testing will be notified via telephone as well as on PoliceApp. Therefore, it is imperative that we are able to reach you by phone. Those of you who are excluded from Phase 2 will be notified via PoliceApp only. Do NOT call the Police Department for results of the test.
Qualifications - Must have qualifications by time of Appointment
- An active NJ PTC certification, together with either a two-year college degree from an accredited college or university, or the accumulation of at least 60 credits from an accredited college or university.
- Applicants who are transferring from a current New Jersey law enforcement agency, must have a minimum of two years since the time of their appointment to that agency or bear the responsibility for any costs incurred by the former employer under Title 40A:14-178. In addition, transfer applicants must provide a waiver releasing their current department’s complete disciplinary record to this agency for review in accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:17B-247.
Transfer applicants from out of state agencies will likely have to repeat the Police Academy process to obtain a valid NJ PTC Certification. All questions regarding transferring from out of state should be directed to the NJ Police Training Commission.
OR
- Four (4) year college degree from an accredited college or university.
OR
- At least two (2) years of active military service with an honorable discharge, together with either a two (2) year college degree from an accredited college or university or the accumulation of at least sixty (60) credits from an accredited college or university.
OR
- At least four (4) years of active military service with honorable discharge provided, however, that said appointment, pursuant to this paragraph, shall be contingent pending within five years of said appointment receipt of either a two-year college degree from an accredited college or university or accumulation of at least sixty (60) credits from an accredited college or university
Age
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and not have reached their 35th birthday prior to the date of appointment.
Drivers License
Applicants must have a valid New Jersey Driver’s License by the time of appointment.
