Serving a city of 10,000 residents that increases to 30,000 during the day, PIPD fields approximately 18,000 calls for service a year ranging from traffic stops to serious felony level cases.
Presque Isle is the hub of Aroostook County, the largest county East of the Mississippi River and the Northern most county in Maine. What we are looking for:
- High School Diploma or equivalency.
- Candidates must be 21 years old, or 20 years old with 60 college credits.
- Individuals with honorable military experience, an Associate’s Degree or greater, or current out of state law enforcement certification, or certified Maine Criminal Justice Academy graduates with current police certification are encouraged to apply.
- Candidates will be required to successfully pass a background check, a medical, psychological, and polygraph examination.
- Non-certified candidates must also successfully pass the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Physical Fitness test as a condition of employment.
Job Description/General Duties:
Provide excellent service to the citizens of Presque Isle while enforcing Maine State criminal and civil law and conducting traffic enforcement within the city limits. Covering the city 24 hours a day, officers work with other officers on shift and often will have to respond to calls by themselves while awaiting backup.

Testing Requirements:
- 40th percentile of the Cooper Fitness Standards
- High School Diploma or equivalency
- Maine Criminal Justice Academy Law Enforcement Preservice Phase 1 Completion and passing test. (Non-certified only)
Hiring Process:

- Successful completion of the LEPS Phase 1 and Passing test score
- Passing Cooper Standard PFT Score
- Oral Board Interview
- Conditional Offer of Employment
- Health Screening/Drug Screening
- Background Investigation
- Polygraph Test
- Psychological Test
- Admittance, attendance and completion of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy's Basic Law Enforcement Training Program.
- Successful completion of Field Training
