Ossipee Police Department, NH Police JobsOssipee Police Department

Now accepting applications for Police Officer

Hiring Bonus and Moving Expense

Ossipee, the county seat of Carroll County, is the largest town in a six-town region. It takes its name from the Ossipee Mountains—an ancient range of extinct volcanoes that rise along its western border.

The town is made up of several small villages nestled in the hills, with country roads lined by charming shops offering unique crafts and antiques. Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to enjoy, from excellent fishing on Ossipee Lake and its connecting rivers and streams, to hiking trails in the Ossipee Mountains. The area also offers abundant opportunities for swimming, boating, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling throughout the year.

Ossipee serves a year-round population of approximately 4,500 residents. Both winter and summer months bring a significant increase in seasonal visitors, raising the population and emergency call volume to around 18,000 annually. To support the safety and needs of the community, the town is equipped with specialized units including a K-9 unit, drone unit, and a sniper team.

What sets the Ossipee Police Department apart from other departments is our ability to deliver professional, proactive policing in a rural, tourism-driven environment. Despite serving a small year-round population of approximately 4,500, our department manages an annual call volume of around 18,000 due to significant seasonal increases in visitors—requiring a level of readiness and flexibility often seen in much larger agencies.

We are proud to operate specialized units that are uncommon for a department of our size, including a K-9 Unit, a Drone Unit, and a Sniper Team. These resources allow us to respond quickly and effectively to a wide range of public safety challenges, from search and rescue to tactical operations and special events.

In addition, Ossipee Police recently joined the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) 287(g) program, which enhances our ability to collaborate with federal partners on immigration enforcement and public safety initiatives. This partnership strengthens our department’s capability to identify and process individuals who pose a threat to the community.

Our team is deeply connected to the community and known for its strong mutual aid relationships, commitment to training, and dedication to innovation and integrity. We offer big-city capabilities with small-town accessibility, making the Ossipee Police Department a leader in rural law enforcement.
