The Community of Ocean Pines has approximately 12000 full time residents and another 8000 summer residents. It is known as the safest community in Maryland with the call volume mostly generated as community policing calls. Our older population is very police friendly We are a small department of 16 sworn officers. Ocean Pines, MD, features extensive amenities including five swimming pools (one indoor year-round), a Robert Trent Jones-designed golf course, two marinas, and a private oceanfront Beach Club in Ocean City. Residents and visitors also enjoy a yacht club with dining, 12+ parks, walking trails, a racket sports complex (tennis/pickleball), a skate park, and an equestrian center.
Our department is a perfect place to start a career in law enforcement or for that retired officer who is looking to continue working at a much slower pace.


Minimum Requirements
To become a certified police officer in Maryland, applicants must be:
- At least 21 years old
- A U.S. citizen (or permanent resident)
- Possess a high school diploma or GED
- Have a valid driver’s license.
- Candidates must pass a thorough background check, drug screening, medical/psychological evaluations, and physical agility tests

Job Description/General Duties:
The Ocean Pines Police Department provides patrol services 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will prioritize responses to requests for emergency services using available resources to enhance the safety of the public and department members. responding to calls for service apprehending criminal offenders provide mutual aid and assistance to the other agencies for emergency and law enforcement related activities patrol that is directed at the prevention of criminal acts traffic violations and collisions the maintenance of public order and the discovery of hazardous situations or conditions Responding to reports of both criminal and non-criminal acts responding to routine calls for service such as public assistance or safety traffic direction and control community oriented policing

Testing Requirements:
We use the standard National written police officer selection test consisting of 4 timed sections. one math section, 2 reading comprehension and one report writing section. in order to pass a candidate needs an overall score of 70 percent.

Hiring Process:
Once a completed application is submitted, an applicant will be given a testing date. On that date the applicant will begin with the written test, once completed they will move on the physical agility part of the testing phase. mile and a half-run sit up, and pushups dummy drag and a modified wall climb. The applicant will receive the standards in advance in order to prepare. the final section of testing will consist of a brief oral interview. The applicant will then move into the background phase which includes references family work history education criminal and driving record checks a urinalysis medical history a mental health examination and a polygraph. The academy training is 6 months of classroom and physical training which at the end the recruit will complete practicals to show proficiency in thigs like traffic stops and handling domestics
