PLEASE NOTE: PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST & WRITTEN TEST
There will be two dates for the Physical Agility Test and the Written Test: July 31 and August 1, 2020. An email will be sent via PoliceApp after July 20 to all applicants for them to choose which date they prefer. There will be a limited number of time slots available for each day so look for the email and reserve your time slot quickly.
The test dates will be Friday, July 31, 2020 or Saturday, August 1, 2020. These will be the only test dates; you must be able to attend one of these dates. All tests will be held at Narragansett High School, 245 South Pier Road, Narragansett, R.I.
The first phase of the testing is the Physical Agility test which is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on whichever day you registered to attend. You will be required to wear a white t-shirt, blue athletic shorts and sneakers for the test. You will also be required to provide proof of identification. The identification must be state certified with photo. (i.e. driver’s license, passport or military ID.) Candidates unable to provide photo identification at the time of the testing will be disqualified. (Shower facilities available after the Fitness test.)
Upon arrival, all staff, assessors, and candidates will submit to a health screening. The screening will consist of a temperature check and a brief questionnaire. Anybody who answers yes to one or more of the screening questions or has a temperature above 100.3 will not be permitted to participate.
Please note: The ‘Fitness Test Medical Certificate’ dated within six months of July 31, 2020 must be received at the Narragansett Police Department no later than Thursday, July 23, 2020. This certificate clears the candidate for Physical Agility Testing. Failure to provide this information on time will disqualify the candidate and the application fee will be forfeited.
The physical agility testing will be conducted using the entrance standards set forth by the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy.
Attention: No one will be allowed to take the physical agility test unless all of the above criteria have been met.
The second phase of the testing is the written test which will be held on the same day as your Physical Agility Test and will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m. in the cafeteria of Narragansett High School, 245 South Pier Road, Narragansett, R.I. Casual or business casual attire.

Minimum Qualifications
- Candidate must be between the ages of 20 and 31 years of age upon appointment
- Must be a citizen of the United States
- Height must be proportionate to weight
- Must have an unrestricted valid driver's license in the State of RI upon appointment
- Must have a minimum of 60 college credit hours or two consecutive years of honorable active duty military service
- Vision must be not less than 20/30 (correctable) to 20/20 and must be able to distinguish colors

Candidate must pass a physical agility test administered by the department to progress to written phase.
Candidates who move on to the final phase of testing (detective background check) will be required to submit appropriate waivers of any confidential information for investigation by the Narragansett Detective Unit as to his/her background and eligibility to be appointed to the department.

Prior to appointment the successful candidate(s) shall be required to submit to and pass a physical examination and a psychological examination as defined by state statute law.
