Information relating to the qualifications for initial appointment to the Police Department (AN ORDINANCE IN AMENDMENT OF CHAPTER 11 OF THE CODE OF ORDINANCES OF THE TOWN OF NARRAGANSETT) may be obtained at the Town Hall, Human Resources, 25 Fifth Avenue. PLEASE NOTE: PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST & WRITTEN TEST

 

The first phase of the testing is the Physical Agility, which is scheduled for Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at Narragansett High School, 245 South Pier Road, Narragansett, R.I. You will be required to wear a white t-shirt, blue athletic shorts and sneakers for the test. You will also be required to provide proof of identification. The identification must be state certified with photo. (i.e. driver’s license, passport or military ID.) College IDs and library cards, etc. are not acceptable. Candidates unable to provide photo identification at the time of the testing will be disqualified.

Please note: The ‘Fitness Test Medical Certificate’ dated within six months of August 4, 2018, must be provided on the day of the testing. This certificate clears the candidate for Physical Agility Testing. Failure to provide this information will disqualify the candidate.Click HERE to download

The physical agility testing will be conducted using the entrance standards set forth by the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy.

Attention: No one will be allowed to take the physical agility test unless all of the above criteria have been met.

The second phase of the testing is the written test which will be held the same day, Saturday, August 4, 2018 beginning promptly at 1:00 p.m. in the cafeteria of Narragansett High School, 245 South Pier Road, Narragansett, R.I.

There is a non-refundable $30.00 application fee which is due with the application.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidate must be between the ages of 20 and 31 years of age upon appointment
  • Must be a citizen of the United States
  • Height must be proportionate to weight
  • Must have an unrestricted valid driver's license in the State of RI upon appointment
  • Must have a minimum of 60 college credit hours or two consecutive years of honorable active duty military service
  • Vision must be not less than 20/30 (correctable) to 20/20 and must be able to distinguish colors

 

Application Process

  • The candidate must complete an Application of Employment on Policeapp.com and submit a $30 non-refundable application fee.

  • Candidate must pass a physical agility test administered by the department to progress to written phase.

    Candidates who move on to the final phase of testing (detective background check) will be required to submit appropriate waivers of any confidential information for investigation by the Narragansett Detective Unit as to his background and eligibility to be appointed to the department.

  • Prior to appointment the successful candidate(s) shall be required to submit to and pass a physical examination and a psychological examination as defined by state statute law. The physical examination will be graded as: recommended for appointment or not recommended for appointment. The psychological evaluation will be graded below average, average or above average.
