The McCordsville Police Department serves a rapidly growing community of approximately 16,000 residents in northwestern Hancock County. McCordsville is located just south of Geist Reservoir and borders Fishers and Lawrence. The town is also conveniently located near Indianapolis and provides quick access to I-69, I-70, I-465, and State Road 234.

Minimum Requirements:
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Be a United States citizen.
- Be at least 21 years old at the time of appointment.
- Be under 40 years old at the time of appointment, unless an exception applies under Indiana law or the Indiana 1977 Police Officers’ and Firefighters’ Pension and Disability Fund.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Be legally eligible to possess a firearm.
- Have no felony convictions.
- No drug use in the last 3 years
- Have no conviction for domestic battery or another disqualifying domestic violence offense.
- Have no dishonorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces.
- Be able to meet all requirements of the Indiana 1977 Police Officers’ and Firefighters’ Pension and Disability Fund.
- Be able to perform the essential duties of a police officer, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Be willing and able to work nights, weekends, holidays, overtime, emergency call-ins, and rotating 12-hour shifts.
- Establish residency in accordance with department and Town of McCordsville requirements within six months of employment.
- Successfully complete all phases of the hiring process.
- Provide complete, accurate, and truthful information throughout the application and hiring process.
Prior law enforcement experience is not required for entry-level applicants.
Lateral applicants must provide documentation of their law enforcement certification, academy training, employment history, and current certification status.
Job Description/General Duties:
McCordsville Police Officers are responsible for protecting life and property, maintaining public order, enforcing criminal and traffic laws, and providing professional police services to the community.
Essential job functions include, but are not limited to:
- Patrolling areas within the Town of McCordsville.
- Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
- Enforcing federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
- Conducting criminal and traffic investigations.
- Conducting traffic stops and enforcing traffic laws.
- Making lawful arrests.
- Interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects.
- Identifying, collecting, preserving, and documenting evidence.
- Providing emergency assistance and basic first aid.
- Preparing complete and accurate reports.
- Testifying in court and other legal proceedings.
- Operating emergency vehicles and department equipment.
- Participating in community policing, public education, and crime prevention activities.
- Working cooperatively with other law enforcement agencies, emergency services, schools, businesses, and community organizations.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

Testing Requirements:
The McCordsville Police Department does not administer a written examination as part of its hiring process.
Applicants must successfully complete the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Physical Agility Test.
The McCordsville Police Department requires applicants to meet the academy’s exit standard, which is more demanding than the entrance standard.
To pass, applicants must complete the entire course in 3 minutes and 58 seconds or less. Any assessed penalties are added to the applicant’s completion time.
The test is completed as one continuous timed course while wearing a 15-pound weighted vest. The course includes:
- Memorizing a photograph for identification at the end of the course
- Completing a lap and shuttle run
- Carrying two kettlebells
- Going over a 17-inch hurdle
- Completing three passes across a stair obstacle
- Performing a hand-release sprawl
- Crawling under a hurdle
- Completing a 72-inch running broad jump
- Climbing over a four-foot fence or wall
- Performing a second hand-release sprawl
- Dragging a 185-pound dummy around a cone and back to its original position
- Completing 15 dry-fire trigger pulls with the dominant hand
- Completing 15 dry-fire trigger pulls with the support hand
- Correctly identifying the photograph shown at the beginning of the test
Applicants must complete the course in accordance with all Indiana Law Enforcement Academy testing protocols. Penalties may be assessed for improperly completing an obstacle, missing required markers, touching obstacles, skipping components, or failing to follow the established course.
Applicants who do not complete the course in 3 minutes and 58 seconds or less will not advance in the hiring process.

Hiring Process:
The hiring process may include the following steps:
- Submission of a full application and required supporting documents.
- Review of the applicant’s minimum qualifications.
- Physical agility testing.
- Comprehensive background investigation.
- Department Voice Stress Analysis examination.
- Oral interview board.
- Interview with the Chief of Police.
- Conditional offer of employment.
- Psychological, medical, drug screening, and pension examinations.
- Appointment by the Metropolitan Board of Police Commissioners.
- Department onboarding and training.
- Field Training Officer Program.
- Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Tier I Basic Training, when applicable.
