Minimum Requirements:
Before you apply, make sure you meet these qualifications:
- Age: Must be 20 years of age at the time of application.
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen at the time of application.
- Education: High school diploma or its equivalent.
- Driver's License: Applicants must submit a copy of a valid driver's license. Please note: driving records and validity may be checked and may be grounds for disqualification at any time after application.
- Great Physical and Mental Health: Visual Acuity: 20/30 vision in each eye with correction and must be binocular and monocular of 20/100 vision in each eye without correction (glasses or contacts). Depth and color perception must be within normal limits.
- Convictions: Applicants must not have been convicted of any felony or misdemeanor involving perjury or a false statement or have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. Criminal history may disqualify applicants.
- Tattoos: Tattoos or body art displaying the following are prohibited at all times: Racism;Sexism or sexually suggestive or explicit;Obscenity or profanity;Gang or drug-related;Undermining City or departmental values;Political in nature.
- Body Piercing and Disfigurements: Body piercing and intentional (decorative) disfigurements are prohibited from view.
Job Description/General Duties:
As a Lewiston Police Officer, you will patrol assigned neighborhoods to enhance community safety, respond to emergencies, and provide critical assistance to those in need. You will enforce local and state laws with professionalism and integrity, conduct thorough investigations, and prepare clear and accurate reports. Additionally, you will engage with residents through proactive initiatives and positive outreach, serving as a trusted guardian and representative of the City of Lewiston.

Requirements:
Physical Fitness Test passing scores are based on gender and age. These are available on the City of Lewiston website.
Hiring Process:
If your application moves forward, LPD will invite you to an Oral Interview with members of the Lewiston Police Department. If you do well in the interview, LPD will contact you about a conditional offer of employment and schedule you to complete the following:
- Background Investigation
- Polygraph Exam
- Psychological Screening
- Medical Exam
Once you’ve cleared all previous stages, you will matriculate in the Maine Criminal Justice Academy’s Basic Law Enforcement Training Program (a full-time, intensive 18-week program).
