Minimum Requirements:

  • - Must be US Citizen
  • - Must possess a valid drivers license
  • - Must be between the ages 21 and 39 at appointment
  • - No felony convictions
  • - No Operating While Intoxicated convictions within five years
  • - High school graduate (G.E.D. shall be considered)
  • - Must be of good moral character

Testing Requirements:

The written test requires a minimum score of 80% to continue in the hiring process.

Physical Fitness Test:

There are 5 physical fitness components that will be measured as a battery of tests. Applicants should understand that these tests will involve periods of physical exertion and that, as with any physical activity, certain risks are inherent. Applicants will be expected to read and sign a Waiver Form.

  • Vertical Jump - 16 inches    One Minute Sit Ups - 29     300 Meter Run - 71 Seconds    Maximum Push Ups - 25    1.5 Mile Run - 16 minutes 28 seconds
  • **The minimum passing performance is the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy's recruit exit standards**

Lateral Entry Program:

Lafayette Police Department, IN Police JobsThe Lafayette Police Department recognizes the value of applicants with previous law enforcement experience.  To benefit transferring officers, LPD provides incentives to the starting salary and paid time off.

About the Program:

The Lateral Entry Program will provide accelerated salary/pay and Paid Time Off (PTO) incentives for qualified candidates.  Calculation for years of service will not include partial/seasonal years of service, or non-certified law enforcement.  The Lateral Entry Program does not recognize rank or seniority "rights" from the officer's prior employment.

Salary:

  • Qualified candidates with one to two years of law enforcement experience shall receive a salary equivalent to a 2nd class patrol officer. Qualified candidates with two or more years of law enforcement experience shall receive a salary equivalent to a 1st class patrol officer.

Paid Time Off:

  • Qualified candidates shall be annually granted PTO based upon their total years of certified law enforcement employment. Bring your experience, keep your PTO!
