Fryeburg Police Department - F/T Police Officer
The Town of Fryeburg is seeking motivated and dedicated individuals for the position of Full-Time Police Officer with the Fryeburg Police Department.
The Fryeburg Police Department is a progressive, community-oriented law enforcement agency serving approximately 3,600 year-round residents. During the summer months, the population swells to over 48,000, making Fryeburg the second busiest gateway to the State of Maine.
The department consists of 12 personnel, including 6 full-time officers, 5 reserve officers, and 1 civilian staff member. We provide modern, proactive policing services and value professionalism, accountability, and strong community partnerships.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a High School graduate, college preferred,
- Must be at least 21 years of age,
- Must have valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- IF CERTIFIED, candidates must have Pre-Service Phase 1 & II certifications (If you are an out-of-state applicant, you must be able to obtain a waiver from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.)
Hiring Process:
- Applicants must be able to successfully complete medical, psychological and polygraph exams, MCJA physical requirements, interview process, and an extensive background investigation.
- Starting pay for this position will be commensurate with experience and a competitive benefits package is offered.
- Applicants with experience may be laterally entered into our pay scale at up to 5 years' experience at the town’s discretion.
- All new full-time employees are required to live within 45 minutes driving time of the Town limits within 6 months of hire.

Police Officer Job Responsibilities:
- Protects citizens by preventing crime, enforcing laws, apprehending suspects, and monitoring traffic.
- Prevents crime by explaining and enforcing applicable federal, state, and local laws and ordinances; teaching preventive, protective, and defensive tactics; mediating disputes; patrolling assigned area; responding to notices of disturbances; conducting searches; observing suspicious activities; and detaining suspects.
- Apprehends suspects by responding to complaints and calls for help, observing violations, and making arrests.
- Conducts criminal investigations by gathering evidence, interviewing victims and witnesses, and interrogating suspects.
- Documents observations and actions by radioing information and completing reports.
- Reports observations and actions by testifying in court.
- Fulfills court orders by serving warrants and commitments.
- Maintains safe traffic conditions by monitoring and directing traffic, enforcing laws and ordinances,
- investigating accidents, providing escort, and reporting unsafe streets and facilities.
- Minimizes personal injury by rescuing and reviving victims and radioing for medical assistance.
- Maintains operations by following department policies and procedures and recommending changes.
- Ensures operation of equipment by practicing responsible use, completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, notifying supervisor of needed repairs, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by studying applicable federal, state, and local laws and ordinances; attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; practicing skills; and participating in professional societies.
