The Fair Lawn Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Special Police Officer, Class 1. This announcement is for several part-time positions. 

We are a municipal Police Department, currently at 61 sworn officers. We serve a community of over 35,000 residents covering 5.2 square miles.

Looking for a driven and experienced professional to protect and serve our citizens. A successful candidate will possess a strong work ethic, be able to think quickly on their feet, and maintain a positive attitude in all situations.

Responsibilities:

• Court security
• Traffic control
• Special event security
• House of worship patrols
• Weather related emergencies
• Other PD assists as needed

• Job requirements:
• Must be a citizen of the Untied States
• Must be a resident of Bergen County, NJ. Out of county residents ARE NOT ELIGIBLE.
• Must have a valid NJ Driver's License
• Must read, write and speak the English language well and have achieved a high school diploma or equivalent
• Must pass a comprehensive background investigation, physical and psychological testing
• Must complete SLEO 1 academy at Bergen County Law and Public Safety Institute, Mahwah, NJ, tentatively scheduled for January 2025

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: Starting pay range is $21.00 per hour, 20 hour per week maximum allowed hours  

• Schedule: Hours vary
