Job Announcement:

Egremont Police Department
Now Accepting Applications for Police Officers
The Egremont Police Department is a full-service municipal law enforcement agency serving the Town of Egremont in southern Berkshire County, Massachusetts. We are responsible for providing 24/7 police services to the community, including patrol operations, investigations, traffic enforcement, and emergency response.
With Egremont PD you can expect
- Broad, real policing experience
- Officers aren’t specialized into narrow roles. You handle everything—patrol, investigations, crashes, arrests, court work, and follow-ups. In a lot of larger agencies, that kind of full-scope experience takes years to get. Here, you get it immediately.
- High level of independence and responsibility
- Because of the department size and structure, officers are trusted to work independently, make decisions in real time, and see cases through from start to finish.
- Strong community interaction
- Egremont is a place where officers actually know the people they’re serving. You’re not just passing through calls—you’re building relationships with residents, business owners, and seasonal visitors.
- Direct impact
- In a smaller community, what you do is visible. Good police work is noticed, appreciated, and has an immediate effect on community safety and quality of life.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a United States citizen
- Must possess a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License (or be able to obtain one upon appointment)
- Must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation, including criminal history, driving record, and employment verification
- Must be able to pass a medical examination, psychological evaluation, and drug screening
- Must meet all requirements for certification as a law enforcement officer in Massachusetts through the Massachusetts Police Training Committee (MPTC)
Job Description/General Duties:
- Patrol operations throughout the Town of Egremont and response to emergency and non-emergency calls for service
- Motor vehicle stops, traffic enforcement, crash investigations, and DUI/OUI enforcement
- Investigation of criminal activity, including interviews, evidence collection, and case follow-up
- Making arrests, when appropriate, and preparing all required reports and court documentation
- Responding to disturbances, domestic incidents, alarms, and other calls requiring police intervention
- Community policing, public assistance, and proactive problem-solving with residents and businesses
- Enforcement of Massachusetts General Laws and local ordinances
- Assisting with warrant service, summons service, and other enforcement-related duties
- Working collaboratively with neighboring law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other agencies
- Completing detailed and accurate written reports and maintaining case documentation
- Assisting with administrative, training, and departmental operations as needed
Benefits
- Competitive hourly wage with scheduled increases
- Medical insurance coverage offered through the Town
- Retirement benefits through the Berkshire County Retirement System
- Shift differential pay for eligible evening and overnight shifts
- Holiday pay for worked holidays
- Paid detail opportunities at established department detail rates
- Overtime opportunities based on operational needs and staffing
- Educational incentive pay for approved college degrees
- Paid training and professional development opportunities
