CERTIFIED OR NON-CERTIFIED FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER

The Dunbarton Police Department is currently accepting resumes and cover letters for one (1) Certified (NH or out-of-state equivalent) or Non-Certified Full-Time Police Officer. The Department is currently comprised of five (5) Full-Time Officers to include the Chief of Police, three (3) Part-Time Officers and one (1) Part-Time Office Administrator.

Dunbarton Police Officers are responsible for responding to calls for service, conducting criminal investigations and traffic enforcement and participating in various community policing initiatives. Our officers are well-rounded law enforcement professionals that have the opportunity to work and resolve cases from start to finish and make long lasting community connections. We enjoy a fantastic working relationship and collaboration with surrounding law enforcement agencies. Our dispatching services are provided by the Goffstown Police Department and our prosecution services are provided by the Concord City Prosecutor’s Office and the Merrimack County Attorney’s Office. We are a member agency of the Central New Hampshire Special Operations Unit (CNHSOU), New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, and Southern New Hampshire Peer Support/Critical Incident Stress Management Team.

The Dunbarton Police Department and the Town of Dunbarton offer a generous benefits package which includes membership in NH Group II Retirement, health/vision/dental insurance, sick leave, vacation time, and a tuition reimbursement program. Wages for non-certified candidates range between $26.86 to $27.53/hour while in the police academy and field training program. Upon release to solo patrol, wages increase to $30.56/hour. Wages for certified candidates range up to $34.58/hour depending on qualifications and years of prior law enforcement experience. This does not include 12 paid holidays which is up to an additional $3,319 per year. The above wages include 2025's proposed 3% COLA.

Additional compensation may be earned through overtime, time-and-a-half pay on holiday hours worked, extra detail opportunities ($60/hour paid to the officer) and grant funded enforcement patrols, when available. In addition, full-time employees covered by another qualified health insurance plan currently receive an annual opt out stipend of approximately $5,974 paid out in monthly installments. The Town also offers a generous longevity bonus ranging from $400-$2,000 annually depending on years of full-time service with the Town.

The Dunbarton Police Department places a strong emphasis on training, professional development and employee wellness. Our in-service training program incorporates semi-annual Gracie Survival Tactics and active shooter response training, as well as ongoing mental health and resiliency training. Dunbarton Police Officers currently enjoy Load Bearing Vests, a paid gym membership with one (1) hour of on-duty workout time, a compressed work schedule, annual wellness consultations, a department-issued cell phone (AT&T FirstNet), a paid Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) membership, and opportunities for specialized and instructor assignments. In addition, the Department has a progressive grooming and tattoo policy that allows for up to a well-groomed full beard and visible tattoos below the neck and above the wrists (wedding band tattoos are authorized).

Candidates must be a United States Citizen, 21 years of age, have a High School Diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and meet criminal/motor vehicle record and past drug usage standards set forth by the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council (“PSTC”) and this Department. A college degree and/or military experience is preferred. The hiring process may include a written test/writing sample, physical agility test, oral board interviews, background investigation, medical examination and drug screening, polygraph examination, and a psychological examination. Certain components of the selection process may be waived by the Chief of Police for certified applicants.

"In lieu of taking the Dunbarton, NH Police Department Physical Fitness Test individuals may opt to take the CHIP Physical Fitness Test. Individuals who pass the CHIP Physical Fitness Test will not be required to take the fitness test administered by Dunbarton PD. CHIP results must be valid during the current recruitment process.
