The Dunbarton Police Department is currently accepting resumes and cover letters for a Certified (NH or out-of-state equivalent) or Non-Certified Full-Time Police Officer.

Minimum Requirements & Hiring Process

Eligibility Requirements

Candidates must:

  • Be a United States Citizen
  • Be 21 years of age or older
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Hold a valid driver’s license
  • College education and/or military experience preferred
  • Meet criminal history, motor vehicle, and drug usage standards set forth by:
    • New Hampshire Police Standards & Training Council (PSTC)
    • Dunbarton Police Department

Selection Process

The hiring process may include:

  • Written exam or writing sample
  • Physical agility test
  • Oral board interview(s)
  • Background investigation
  • Medical examination & drug screening
  • Polygraph examination
  • Psychological evaluation
    *Certain components may be waived by the Chief of Police for certified applicants.

Physical Fitness Testing

  • Applicants may utilize a valid CHIP Physical Fitness Test in lieu of the Dunbarton PD fitness test
  • CHIP results must be valid during the current recruitment process

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly Wages

Non-Certified Officers:

  • $29.28 – $30.01/hour while attending academy and FTO
  • $33.31/hour upon release to solo patrol

Certified Officers:

  • Up to $37.69/hour, based on qualifications and prior experience
  • Proposed 3% COLA in 2026 increases top rate to $38.82/hour

Additional Pay & Incentives

  • 12 paid holidays (valued up to an additional $3,618 annually)
  • Overtime opportunities
  • Time-and-a-half for holidays worked
  • Extra detail assignments paid at $60/hour
  • Grant-funded enforcement patrols
  • Health insurance opt-out stipend:
    • ~$5,974 annually (paid monthly)
      Increasing to ~$6,919 in 2026
  • Longevity bonus:
    • $400 – $2,000 annually based on years of service
