DENVILLE TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT

IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR

POLICE OFFICER

All applications and documents must be submitted online through PoliceApp.  No applications or information should be dropped off or mailed to Denville Township Police Department.  All submissions are required to be completed online.

The Denville Township Police Department is actively seeking qualified, professional and energetic applicants for the position of Police Officer who possess the department’s Core Values of Honesty, Integrity, Fairness, Compassion, and Respect. 

GENERAL DUTIES

SALARY

  • Starting salary 2018; $45,675 plus full health benefits and enrollment in New Jersey pension system.

 

ABOUT DENVILLE TOWNSHIP POLICE DEPARTMENT

  • The Denville Township Police Department is comprised of 32 sworn police officers, 5 Class III officers, and 15 civilian employees including dispatchers, animal control officers and records clerks. The Township has a residential population of approximately 14,000 residents and covers approximately 14 square miles in the center of Morris County. This geographical location is what gives Denville the nickname “The Hub of Morris County”.   Denville Township has 8 schools (including 3 high schools), a hospital and is bisected by Routes 80, 46 and 10. Denville has a mix of residential and business areas and our Town Center is often recognized as one of the best in New Jersey for shopping and dining.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applicants must not be less than 18 years old nor more than 35 years at time of appointment (however, age restrictions shall not conflict with the current state and federal law).
  • Applicants must be of sound body, good moral character, and in good health sufficient to satisfy the board of trustees of the police and firemen’s retirement system (PFRS) of New Jersey as to the eligibility for membership in the retirement system.
  • Candidate must possess a minimum of 60 college credits from an accredited college or university, with preference provided to applicants who have a B.A./B.S. degree. (Military Service can NOT be substituted for college credits)
  • Applicant must be a citizen of the United States and a legal resident of the State of New Jersey
  • Applicant must possess a valid New Jersey Driver License
  • Applicant must not have been convicted of a crime.

 

TESTING REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants must pass a physical agility test. (Standards and Wavier are located at the top of this page under the apply now button)
    Applicants must pass an entry level police officer exam administered by the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police.

Testing dates are as follows.  There will be no make ups.  Mark you calendars accordingly.  There will be no refunds if you are unable to make the dates for any reason.

Important Note: You must also print the Physical Agility Wavier and have signed by your doctor.  This waiver MUST be presented at the time of the physical agility test. Without the waiver, you will not be allowed to participate.

Study guides for the written exam will be available for you to pick up at the Denville Township Police Department no earlier than September 10th, @ 8am.  You must print the application confirmation you will receive from PoliceApp after submitting your application and turn it in to the PD in order to receive your study guide.

HIRING PROCESS

The hiring process shall consist of all of the following

  • Physical Agility Test
  • Written Examination
  • Several Interviews consisting of varied staff members of the Denville Township Police Department
  • Extensive Background Investigation
  • Psychological Examination
  • Medical Examination
  • Drug Testing

Successful Applicant may then be sent for training to a New Jersey Police Training Commission Approved Police Academy
