Police Officers
The Dennis Police Department is seeking applicants for the position of Certified Police Officer/Lateral
Transfer.
The Dennis Police Department has 48 full-time sworn police officers. Specialty opportunities include:
Detective Unit, Motorcycle Unit, ATV Unit, Community Operations Unit, School Resource Officer, Field
Training Officer, Bicycle Patrol, K9, Mental Health Task Force, Cape Cod Regional SWAT Team, and
Search and Rescue.
Base salary starts at $74,919 (Step 1) and increases to $116,039 (Step 12) based on years of service and
education incentive. Anyone hired with more than one year of full-time Police Officer experience may
start at Step 2 ($78,266). This initial salary does not include overtime, details, shift differential, or
specialty pay.
Candidates must meet these basic qualifications:
- Be a United States citizen;
- Be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment;
- Must have and maintain a valid Massachusetts driver’s license;
- Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent;
- An Associate’s degree, Bachelor's degree, or prior military service is highly encouraged.
- Must have or be able to obtain a Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms, “LTC”.
Benefits & Schedule
- 4/2 schedule with shift differential up to $65/week
- Details: $75/hour (4-hr minimum)
- Health Insurance: Town pays up to 75% of premiums + HSA contribution ($1,500 individual / $3,000 family)
- Vacation: Up to 24 days
- Holidays: 12 paid holidays
- Personal Days: 4 per year

Education Incentives
Degree stipend: $5,000 (Bachelor’s) • $8,000 (Master’s)
