The Demarest Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer. The department is accepting applications that meet the following criteria. Applicants will attend the Bergen County Law and Public Safety Police Academy.
The Demarest Police Department is looking for bright, energetic men and women who are up to the challenge of becoming the best of the best. Upon completion of the Bergen County Law and Public Safety Police Academy, you will join a team of professional officers who are dedicated to serving and becoming a part of their community in many ways. From patrol unit to the detective bureau and all aspects of policing. As an officer in the Demarest Police Department, you will be giving an opportunity to become a member of the bigger law enforcement community in Bergen County, such as Bergen County Rapid Deployment Force (RDF), Rapid Deployment Team (RDT), SWAT, Fatal Team and much more.
Applicants will be subject to a rigorous employment application process including an extensive background investigation and review of all employment records. Candidates must also submit to and pass a medical, drug, and psychological evaluation.

Requirements:
- Applicant must not be less than 21 years old nor more than 35 years of age at time of appointment (however, age restrictions shall not conflict with the current state and federal law).
- Applicant must be a citizen of the United States and a legal resident of the State of New Jersey.
- Applicant must possess a Valid High School Diploma (or GED).
- Applicant are preferred to have college.
- Applicant must possess a valid New Jersey Driver License.
- Applicant must be able to read, write, and speak the English language well and intelligently.
- Applicant must be of good moral character, not lacking in candor and never convicted of any indictable crimes; not committed any crime or other offenses involving moral turpitude, dishonesty or fraud, regardless of conviction; not served parole, probation, pretrial intervention, conditional dismissal or been involved in a similar program in this State or in any other State.
- Applicant must not have been the subject of a domestic violence restraining order, extreme risk protection order, or sexual assault, criminal stalking, or sex offender order issued by a Court in this State or any other jurisdiction.
- Applicant must not have engaged in any conduct or behavior that would preclude the issuance of a law enforcement license in New Jersey pursuant to N.J.A.C. 13:1-12.1
- Applicant must not be a present member or former associate or affiliate member of a "street gang" based on a preponderance of the evidence.
- Applicant must be sound in body and mind, in good health, in sound physical condition and have no physical disorders, which shall be more particularly evaluated by the physician during the applicant's physical examination.
- Applicants must be able to pass Physical Fitness Assessment prior to hiring. (Federal National Standard)
