DEPUTY SHERIFF RECRUIT

Location: Carroll County Sheriff’s Office – Westminster, Maryland
Grade: P05 – Non-Exempt
Starting Salary: $58,948 annually

Key Responsibilities

Deputy Sheriff Recruits must:

  • Attend and successfully complete the Entry-Level Training Academy and required certification with the Maryland Police & Correctional Training  Commission (MPCTC)
  • Learn and apply law enforcement principles in the classroom and the field

Minimum Qualifications

U.S. citizen 

Education:

  • High school diploma or a GED recognized by the State Board of Education that meets COMAR standards

Experience:

  • No prior law enforcement experience required

License:

  • Valid driver's license

Character:

  • No criminal records or dishonorable discharge
  • Must demonstrate integrity, sound judgment, and emotional stability

Selection Process

Qualified applicants will participate in the following selection phases:

  1. Integrity Questionnaire
  2. Physical Agility Test
  3. Written Examination
  4. Oral Interview Board
  5. Confidential Questionnaire
  6. Polygraph Examination
  7. Psychological Examination
  8. Background Investigation
  9. Medical Examination
  10. Final Command Review / Interview (At the discretion of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office)
