GENERAL DUTIES
The City of Caribou is accepting applications for a full time police officer. Applicant must have a high school diploma, 200-hour police course certificate and will be required to pass the Maine Criminal Justice Academy prescribed physical aptitude test, oral examinations, physical and psychological examination and criminal background check including a polygraph examination. Applicant must hold a valid Maine driver’s license and have an excellent driving record. Any of the following would be a plus: Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or law enforcement experience.

SALARY
- $30,540.64-$39,689 +shift differential, longevity pay, fitness incentive and grant-funded overtime opportunities.
- Maine State Retirement System (50% after 25 years, no age minimum)

The mission of the Caribou Police Department is to enhance the quality of life throughout the City of Caribou by working cooperatively with all of our citizens to preserve the peace, reduce fear, enforce the law and promote a caring and safe environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 21 years of age (20 with a college degree)
TESTING REQUIREMENTS
- All candidates will be required to pass/complete Maine Criminal Justice Academy and State of Maine Police Officer standards for training, including but not limited to MCJA fitness test, physical, psychological and polygraph examinations, and extensive background check.
- Out of state candidates are encouraged to apply; qualifications will be determined by MCJA training standards
HIRING PROCESS
After submitting an application the City of Caribou will contact candidates that meet our needs. A series of interviews as well as physical, psychological, and background checks will be conducted as candidates move through the process. The City of Caribou may reimburse candidates for in person interviews if selected to advance to the final interview process.
