ENTRY LEVEL POLICE OFFICER
The Campton, New Hampshire Police Department is seeking motivated candidates to join our team in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. No law enforcement experience is necessary. Pay starts at $26.78/hour during field training and while attending the NH Police Academy. Officers are eligible for annual merit based step increases with a current wage scale of $55,702.40 to $70,262.40
The Police Department is comprised of 7 full-time officers, a full-time prosecuting attorney, and administrative staff. Specialized assignments include a regional SWAT team, drug task force, and Comfort Dog K9.
The community is 52 square miles of scenic rural patrol and located along Interstate 93 at the foothills of the White Mountains. Our officers work four ten-hour shifts to provide 24-hour coverage to approximately 3,300 full-time residents with an increase of population during tourist seasons. The Owl's Nest Resort and Golf Course is located in both Campton and neighboring Thornton and we are within a 30-minute drive of three major New Hampshire ski resorts (Waterville Valley Resort, Loon Mountain Resort, Cannon Mountain) and New Hampshire's two largest lakes (Lake Winnipesaukee and Squam Lake).
The Police Department is proud to have a contemporary grooming and tattoo policy, allowing visible tattoos above the wrist and below the neck and beards to be worn year-round. Officer health is also paramount, and officers are equipped to patrol with load-bearing external vests. All equipment is provided to include individually assigned patrol rifles.
- United States citizenship
- Age 21 at the time of appointment
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid driver’s license
- Vision corrected to 20/20 or better in both eyes
- Normal hearing Physical & mental fitness

Employees receive a benefits package to include paid holidays, vacation leave, accrued sick leave, personal leave, wellness leave, and enrollment in the NH Retirement System. Employees are offered a choice of health insurance plans with either 93% or 85% of the monthly premium covered by the Town. Employees covered by another health insurance plan receive an additional $5,100 annually.
