MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Be at least 21 years of age
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
• Possess a valid Massachusetts driver’s license or be eligible to obtain one
• Be eligible to obtain and maintain a Massachusetts License to Carry firearms in accordance with M.G.L. c. 140, §131
• Meet all applicable Massachusetts POST Commission certification requirements
• Meet all applicable Municipal Police Training Committee training requirements
• An associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or prior military service is strongly encouraged.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants should be prepared to successfully complete the following steps:

*Non-full-time MPTC academy-trained candidates may be required to complete an additional physical assessment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Brewster police officer, you will:

• Patrol assigned areas and respond to calls for service
• Protect life and property
• Enforce local and state laws
• Conduct traffic stops, issue citations, and make arrests when appropriate
• Investigate crimes and other reported incidents
• Identify suspects and collect, document, and preserve evidence
• Investigate traffic crashes and prepare required documentation
• Produce clear, accurate, and detailed reports
• Maintain department records and testify in court when required
• Build positive relationships with residents, visitors, businesses, and community organizations
• Perform all duties in accordance with applicable laws, department policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
