The Brewster Police Department is currently accepting applications for police officers. We are looking for highly motivated individuals dedicated to making a positive impact in our community. Brewster is a picturesque seaside town with a year-round population of approximately 10,000 residents, which swells to over 30,000 during the summer months.

The Brewster Police Department is an accredited police agency through the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC), demonstrating our commitment to professionalism, excellence, and adherence to the highest standards in law enforcement. Our department is authorized for 23 full-time sworn officers, supported by 6 civilian staff members, who work collaboratively to ensure public safety and foster strong community relationships.

Position Highlights:

  • Salary: $64,022–$81,099, depending on experience (additional educational pay available)

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum Age: 21 years
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate or bachelor’s degree, or prior military service, is strongly encouraged
  • Screening Process: Successful completion of:
    • Initial interview
    • Chief’s interview
    • Comprehensive background check (includes review of school records, credit history, personal references, and fingerprint-based criminal records check)
    • Physical Ability Test (PAT)
    • Psychological evaluation
    • Medical Exam & Drug screen
  • Certification: Must meet all Massachusetts police officer certification requirements MA Post Certification Standards
  • Additional Testing: Non-full-time MPTC academy-trained employees must complete an additional physical test
  • Selection Process

    1. Application Submission: Applicants must submit a completed application form and resume, along with any requested documentation (e.g., driver’s license, diplomas, transcripts, military records, etc.).
    2. Screening: Applications will be reviewed for omissions, deficiencies, or untruthfulness, which may disqualify a candidate.
    3. Interviews: Qualified candidates will be invited for the first phase of interviews based on prior experience, education, and special qualifications. Selected candidates will move forward to phase two of the interview process.
    4. Background Investigation: Finalists will undergo a detailed background investigation.
    5. Final Selection: Candidates successfully completing all phases will proceed to onboarding.

     

  • Key Responsibilities
    As a police officer in Brewster, you will:

    • Public Safety: Patrol designated areas, respond to calls, and ensure the safety of residents and property
    • Law Enforcement: Enforce laws, conduct traffic stops, and issue citations as necessary
    • Crime Prevention: Investigate incidents, identify suspects, and preserve evidence
    • Legal Preparedness: Write reports, maintain records, and testify in court when required
    • Community Engagement: Foster positive relationships with the public and collaborate with community organizations
    • Crime Investigation & Compliance: Investigate crimes, follow department policies, procedures, and rules and regulations, and make arrests in accordance with department policy
    • Traffic Collision Investigation: Investigate traffic collisions, determine causes, and document findings as required
