PLAISTOW POLICE DEPARTMENT
PART-TIME PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHER
The Plaistow Police Department is seeking experienced applicants for a part-time Public Safety Dispatcher. This frontline position provides a valuable service to the public as the first contact for those in need of police, fire, or emergency medical service. The Communications Center is the heart of the police and fire department. Dispatchers play a critical role in linking callers to emergency and non-emergency situations to the appropriate resource in a calm manner. Dispatchers monitor all phones, radios, security cameras and walk ins to the lobby.
Essential Job Functions:
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to multi-task in a challenging, fast-paced environment
- Capable of maintaining strict confidentiality
- Aptitude to work under stress and remain calm
- Excellent verbal, written, and data entry skills
- Skilled at maintaining professional working relationships with other agencies
- Able to maintain focus
- Available to work weekends, days, evenings, midnights, and holiday shifts
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience as an emergency dispatcher
- Prior experience in the criminal justice field
- Call-taking experience
Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (Associates Degree preferred)
- NCIC/ SPOTs/CJIS certificate or ability to acquire one
- Certificates in APCO and/ or NENA (strongly preferred)
Other Requirements:
- No criminal record
- Valid driver’s license
- U.S. citizen
Applicants are required to complete a professional interview and medical exam which will include a drug screening, as well as an extensive background investigation and a criminal records check.
Current hourly salary (steps 1 – 5): $ 19.32 – $ 22.40
Eligible candidates able to join the Plaistow Police Collective Bargaining Agreement with Teamsters Local 633. Salary step increases.
