PER-DIEM DISPATCHERS
The Piscataway Township Police Department has openings for the position of Per-Diem Telecommunicator/Dispatcher. Our Dispatchers provide a vital link between our Citizens and Township Emergency Services. Our Communications Center is a fast paced environment with the responsibility of coordinating emergency services through our dedicated Public Safety Answering Point. Piscataway Township is a 19 square mile community with approximately 61,000 residents. Piscataway Township is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- At least 18 years old
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to speak and read the English language
- Current New Jersey Basic Telecommunicator Course (BTC) certification
- Current New Jersey Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) certification
- Current CPR certification
- Familiarity and proficiency with keyboard/typing skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment
- Ability to provide accurate and timely information to emergency responders
- Ability to make critical decisions
- Excellent communication skills
The following qualifications are preferred but not required for eligibility:
- Prior Police, Fire or EMS Dispatch experience
- Prior Police, Fire or EMS experience
- Working knowledge of the New Jersey Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS)
- Working knowledge of the QED Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Report Management System (RMS)
- Bilingual or multilingual
Salary & Schedule:
- Per-Diem Dispatchers do not have a set schedule. They are part-time Dispatchers who fill vacancies when staffing requires.
- Shifts are awarded on a rotating basis based on the employee's availability
- Per-Diem Dispatchers are expected to fill at least two (2) vacancies per month to maintain their position
- Per-Diem Dispatchers receive preference once Full-Time Dispatcher positions become available
- Per-Diem Dispatcher hourly rates range from $35.87/hour to $48.30/hour depending on prior experience. The designated hourly rate is negotiated at the time of hire.
