CALL TAKER
Salary: $20.52 and up based on qualifications and experience
Shifts: Days, Evenings, Overnights

Northwest Public Safety is a private, not for profit, Regional 9-1-1 Communication Center serving multiple municipalities throughout CT for over 40 years. Northwest is responsible for dispatching twelve (13) EMS Agencies, eleven (11) Fire Departments, one (1) Regional ALS Fly Car System, two (2) Law Enforcement Agencies and providing CMED Service to twenty-eight (28) Cities and towns and six (6) area Hospitals.
Pre-Employment Testing is Required:
These tests are used as a means of determining the suitability of a job applicant for this position, and will test your computer skills, reading comprehension as well as a personality assessment. The scores of these tests are a crucial part of the employment process and will decide how you move along in the selection process.
General Job Description:
- Answering incoming 911 phone calls
- Gathering critical information form callers
- Entering information into Computer Aided Dispatch System
- Making quick decisions and reacting with reason
- Answering all non-emergency calls, determine the caller's needs, and route the call to the appropriate dispatcher or agency
- Remaining calm, professional, courteous and respectful at all times
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure
Must Be Available: Holidays & Weekends
Criminal/Educational Background Check required. Physical and Drug Screen will be conducted.
Preferred Requirements:
The following are PREFERRED but not required to apply:
- EMD, EFD, EPD
- Telecommunicator Certified
- Dispatch Experience
- Live in Service towns (Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Bethlehem, Derby, Middlebury, Naugatuck, Oxford, Prospect, Roxbury, Seymour, Waterbury, Woodbury)
- Police, Fire, EMS field experience
- CPR
- Collect Certification
