Public Safety Dispatcher

The Milford Police Department is seeking a Public Safety Dispatcher to work within the Milford Police Department PSAP Center.  Dispatchers are required to answer calls for service and dispatch Police, Fire and provide Emergency Medical Dispatch Services.

Salary:  Minimum $41,830.36-Maximum $50,297.52 (Higher step for qualifications/certifications)

Hours:  Shift Work-Shift Differential for Sundays, Evenings, Midnights

Job Prerequisites:

The Milford Police Department is in search of a detail oriented professional to work in the PSAP Dispatch Center.  Prospective employees must register to take: Connecticut Police Chiefs Dispatcher Exam

Responsibilities/Qualifications, Skills and Abilities Include:

  1. Ability to communicate effectively in stressful environment
  2. Customer service oriented: ability to establish and maintain excellent work relationships with other employees and the general public
  3. Excellent organizational skills required
  4. Must be able to pass background investigation and deal with matters of a confidential nature
  5. Working knowledge of Computer Aided Dispatch
  6. Ability to perform other dispatch related duties, as required, to assist in the efficient operation of all Emergency Services in the City of Milford
  7. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a G.E.D.
  8. Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license

Probationary Employee Qualification/State Certifications:

  • State of Connecticut Telecommunicator Certification
  • State of Connecticut Collect System Certification
  • Emergency Medical Dispatch

Hiring Process will include:

  • Candidates must take or have current CPCA written test score for the Police Dispatcher Exam. The passing score is 70% or higher.
