The Excelsior Springs Police Department has an opening for a full time 911 TeleCommunicator / Dispatcher.  Our Public Safety Dispatchers provide a vital link between our citizens and Police, Fire, and EMS services for the Excelsior Springs community.  Our Communications Center is a fast paced environment with the responsibility of coordinating emergency services through our dedicated Public Safety Answering Point.   The City of Excelsior Springs is an EOE.


The position of Public Safety Dispatcher interacts with the public as well as police, fire and emergency medical personnel daily in response to emergency and non-emergency incoming calls,

Daily responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Answering emergency and non-emergency phones and transmits information to appropriate personnel.
  • Monitoring telephones, radio, video feeds and other electronic equipment in the Dispatch Center.
  • Dispatching Law Enforcement, Fire or EMS as appropriate, maintaining on-going contact with the responding personnel keeping them up to date on new information as it comes in.
  • Maintaining accurate records in the computer system regarding calls
  • Maintaining on-going contact with the caller, providing life-saving instructions as appropriate until emergency personnel arrive.

This position requires strong public contact work experience, excellent communication skills and the capacity to remain calm in stressful situations. Computer experience desired.

This position requires varying shifts, including holidays and weekends. 


The Excelsior Springs Police Department offers a starting base annual salary of $39,800 with excellent benefits, which includes ten (10) paid holidays, overtime pay, vacation pay, holiday pay, sick leave, life insurance, health, dental and vision insurance, and a pension plan.  Shift differential is also available.



The City of Excelsior Springs is a suburb of Kansas City that is in both Clay and Ray Counties, and has a population of over 11,500.   Excelsior Springs is approximately 11 square miles in land area, and is home to the historic Elms Resort and Spa, a new $14 million community center, a progressive school district with excellent facilities, a large pasta manufacturing plant and other industrial facilities, a Walmart Supercenter, a new microbrewery restaurant, multiple wineries, and all three major US-based automobile dealerships. 


  • Candidates must possess a high school diploma
  • Candidates must possess a valid driver's license
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to type at least 40 words per minute
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
  • Pass a background investigation, truth verification test and a drug screening
