About the Closter Police Department


The members of the Closter Police Department are committed to professionalism through the following core values:

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of the State of New Jersey at the time of appointment.
  • Must possess a valid New Jersey driver's license.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age. The maximum age for appointment shall be as established by law or regulation.
  • Must be physically fit, in good health, and capable of performing the essential functions of a police officer.
  • Must be of good moral character and have no criminal convictions or offenses that would adversely reflect upon the applicant's integrity or suitability for law enforcement.
    Education / Experience

A College Degree is preferred but not required. 

  • Possess an Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education; or
  • Possess a valid New Jersey Police Training Commission (PTC) certification.

Hiring Process
Candidates selected to move forward in the hiring process may be required to complete the following:

  • Application review
  • Oral interview
  • Background investigation
  • Medical examination
  • Psychological evaluation
  • Drug screening
    Successful candidates must also meet all requirements established by the New Jersey Police Training Commission.
