Position Summary

The Finance Generalist performs a variety of accounting, bookkeeping, and clerical functions in support of the organization’s financial operations. This position is responsible for processing accounts receivable payments, posting invoices, performing reconciliations, and assisting with general ledger maintenance. The role also involves frequent public interaction, requiring excellent communication, accuracy, and customer service skills. The Finance Generalist contributes to the agency’s overall financial integrity through precise recordkeeping, compliance with established policies, and collaboration with internal departments and external partners.

Qualifications 

Level I:

  • Education – High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Experience – Two (2) years related experience

*Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required competencies to perform the job.

  • Valid Driver License

Level II:

  • Education – Associate degree in related field
  • Experience – Three (3) years related experience

*Or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required competencies to perform the job.

  • Valid Driver License

Essential Job Functions

  • Ensure regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform a range of professional accounting and clerical tasks to support daily financial operations.
  • Respond to public and internal information requests in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Process and post accounts receivable payments and generate invoices for patient and customer accounts.
  • Perform simple to moderate reconciliations of general ledger and vendor accounts.
  • Review receipts, expenditure forms, purchase orders, and disbursement documents for accuracy and compliance with policies.
  • Prepare and verify deposits, ensuring accurate cash handling and timely bank posting.
  • Maintain organized fiscal records, reports, and documentation to support audit readiness.
  • Assist auditors by providing requested financial data and explanations during reviews or year-end closeout.
  • Monitor interdepartmental transactions to ensure accuracy and consistency of financial reporting.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment and software to complete daily tasks.
  • Generate reports, financial summaries, and statements as needed.
  • Support departmental projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping methods, principles, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
  • Accuracy in data entry, mathematical calculations, and recordkeeping.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, with diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (fax, copier, mail machine, printer).
  • Ability to remain professional and courteous when handling monetary transactions or addressing financial inquiries.
  • Capacity to multitask in a shared office environment with moderate noise and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and basic financial regulations.

Physical Requirements

  • Sit up to seven (7) hours per day.
  • Stand up to one (1) hour per day.
  • Walk up to one (1) hour per day.
  • Occasionally lift up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Bend, squat, climb, reach, kneel, and/or twist as required.
  • Ability to maintain focus and accuracy during extended periods of data entry.
  • Vision sufficient to review detailed financial data both in digital and paper formats.
