Wise County Sheriff's Office - Part-Time Court Security Deputy Sheriff

Job Announcement:

We are accepting applications for the position of a part-time court security deputy sheriff. 

Minimum Requirements:

Must be 21 years of age.  Must possess a high school diploma or GED - an associate degree from an accredited community or junior college is preferred; must be a citizen of the United States; have no background or record of any criminal conviction; be of exemplary ethical reputation; possess a valid state operator's license; be able to satisfactorily pass a thorough background investigation; be in a physical condition which does not limit, in any way, activities necessary and/or inherent to court security operations.  You must currently be at a minimum a Virginia Department of Criminal Justice certified jail officer.

Hiring Process:

Must pass a panel interview, sheriff interview, comprehensive background investigation, and psychological examination. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Have great communication skills, be able to deal fairly and courteously with the public, and ability to work alone and as a team.  You must effectively communicate via voice, telephone, radio, or in writing with staff, or the public.  Have the ability to keep accurate records and prepare reports, demonstrated skill in the use of firearms, physical condition that permits the activities necessary in, and, inherent to court security operations.
