INSTRUCTIONS FOR POLICE RECRUIT APPLICANTS (NON CERTIFIED):
The Tewksbury Township Police Department is seeking candidates for the position of Police Recruit. Candidates must submit to a full background investigation and pass a medical, psychological, medical examination, and drug screening.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
All applicants for the Tewksbury Township Police Department must meet the following minimum qualifications to be eligible to participate in the recruitment process for the position of entry level police officer. Failure to meet any of these qualifications will automatically disqualify the candidate from further consideration during the hiring process. At the time of the application, applicants must be:
- Must be a resident of New Jersey and a citizen of the United States.
- Must be at least 21 years of age, and less than 35 years of age.
- Must have graduated from high school or possess a General Equivalency Degree (GED).
- Must be able to perform all the tasks and duties of a police officer.
- Must possess a valid New Jersey Driver’s License (Required prior to employment).
- Must be of good moral character.
- Must not have a criminal record or a driving under the influence conviction.
- Must submit to a complete background investigation.
- Must submit to and successfully pass a drug screening, medical exam, and psychological examination.

APPLICATION PROCESS
Phase One – Submission of resume to ttpd@tewksburytwp.net resumes will be reviewed to ensure minimum qualifications are met; background investigation packets will then be sent out electronically.
Phase Two – A physical agility exam will be held at the Voorhees High School located at 256 County Road 513 Glen Gardner NJ. Applicants will be notified of the date and time of the physical agility exam. To take the physical exam, you must bring a signed Physicians Release Form – Download the, “Physician Release Form” above.
Applicants who are notified to respond to Phase Two MUST bring:
- Physicians Release, signed by a physician certifying that you are physically able to participate in the examination.
- Photo Identification.
- Athletic attire and sneakers.
- Physical test is rain or shine.
If you do not bring the required Physicians Release Form you will not be permitted to participate in the physical agility test and you will be eliminated from the selection process. There will be no excused absences or re-testing.
Phase Three - Oral interviews will be conducted at the Tewksbury Township Police Department, 167 Old Turnpike Road, Califon NJ 07830. Candidates that have successfully completed Phase Two will be notified by electronic mail of the date and time of their interview. Candidates will be provided with a background investigation packet, which must be completed and returned prior to their scheduled interview. Candidates will be ranked from the highest to the lowest.
Conditional offers of employment will be issued based on the amount of openings. Candidates receiving a conditional offer of employment will be sent for medical and psychological examinations.
The drug screening, psychological examination, background investigation, and the medical examination will be on a pass/fail basis. Candidates will be advised by telephone where and when to report for each of these examinations.

Applicants must have successfully completed the Basic Course for Police Officers (BCPO) course and certified by the NJ Police Training Commission (PTC), or are currently enrolled in a BCPO at a NJ PTC certified Police Academy, or are certified as a NJ PTC Class II (SLEO II) AND meet the requirements set forth by the NJ PTC to be eligible for a waiver by the BCPO. If you do not meet these requirements you need not apply.
