Qualifications:
- Law enforcement certification (Vermont Level III preferred or ability to obtain)
- Three (3) years minimum full-time law enforcement experience
- Strong communication and report writing skills
- Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and integrity
Job Description/General Duties:
The St. Johnsbury Police Department is seeking a motivated and professional Detective to join our dedicated law enforcement team. This position offers the opportunity to conduct meaningful investigative work while serving a vibrant and close-knit community in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom.
Our department is a community-focused law enforcement agency dedicated to public safety, crime prevention, and the enforcement of local and state laws. This position is responsible for conducting investigations, gathering and analyzing evidence, interviewing victims, suspects, and witnesses, and preparing cases for prosecution.
The Detective works closely with patrol officers, prosecutors, and other law enforcement and stakeholder agencies to investigate major crimes, SIU cases, drug investigations, and death investigations;conduct pre-employment background checks;develop leads;execute search warrants;and prepare detailed investigative reports. The position also requires testifying in court and maintaining accurate case documentation.
The ideal candidate will have strong investigative skills, sound judgement, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a community-focused law enforcement agency.

Hiring Process:
