Salary

  • Starting salary is between $48,868 and $55,919 and shall be based upon prior years of service.
    Annual step increases up to $65,637 occur for one to four years after hire date based on prior years of service.
    Longevity increases begin after five years of service.

Minimum Qualifications

US Citizen
Minimum of 21 years of age by date of application
Valid driver’s license
High school diploma or GED
Must meet ONE of the following criteria:
   Must have at least five years of experience as a fulltime Rhode Island police officer by the application deadline
   Must have at least one year of experience as a fulltime Rhode Island police officer by application deadline AND one of the following:
         -At least 60 credits (by application deadline) from an accredited college recognized by the US Department of Education
         -Two years of continuous, active duty service in the US Military with honorable discharge
         -Four years of honorable, continuous service in the US Military as a Reserve or Guard

  • Medical Examination

  • Once hired, new officers must complete a modified field training program and one year of probationary employment (from date of hire) to become permanent members of the department.
