The Ocean City Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of full-time police officer. 

Ocean City is a progressive department which currently employees 68 sworn police officers and a number of special law enforcement class I's and class II's.  The department is made up of four patrol squads, detective bureau, traffic safety unit, community oriented policing unit, training and seasonal operations division, and a police information technology unit.  Ocean City is an island resort that has a high influx of seasonal residents and tourists during the summer months.  Our population grows from approximately 12,000 to over 150,000 during the summer months.  We respond to approximately 45,000 service calls per year.

Ocean City is a customer service oriented town with a reputation as “America’s Greatest Family Resort.”  The Police Department is an accredited agency through the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police.

The department is accepting applications that meet one of the following criteria:

1. In accordance with the New Jersey Civil Service Commission’s (CSC) Intergovernmental Transfer (IGT) Program. (Lateral Transfer).  In accordance with the IGT program, applicants must currently be employed as a sworn officer with a New Jersey Civil Service law enforcement agency and their current agency must be willing to approve the transfer.

2. Applicants that have successfully completed a full Basic Course for Police Officers training course at a school approved and authorized by the New Jersey Police Training commission.  Applicants must be in possession of the course completion certificate.  Note, this does not include a Basic Course for Special Law Enforcement Officer Class II.

Applicants will be subject to a rigorous employment application process including an extensive background investigation and review of all employment records.  Candidates must also submit to and pass a medical, drug, and psychological evaluation.  Starting salary will be commensurate with experience.  The application process may be terminated once the position is filled.
