Job Announcement
This is a "NEW" Criminal Investigator position in the Major Case Section which coordinates investigations and conducts criminal investigations of organized retail crime with city, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies at their request.
The position works closely with private retail business sectors to generate cases, leads, and information identifying organized patterns of criminal activity leading to financial loss.
The focus of investigations is exclusively on organized retail crime activity affecting Montana businesses and consumers.
The Criminal Investigator (Agent) gathers, analyzes and evaluates intelligence on individuals and groups involved in organized retail theft.
The Agent then identifies, coordinates and conducts criminal investigations into thefts of property or services, organized crime activity, white collar crime, complex financial crimes and corruption.
Because organized retail crime may have ties to larger criminal syndicates, investigations into human trafficking, dangerous drug distribution, prescription drug diversion and violent crime may all have a nexus that require a networked approach for an effective outcome.
The Agent responds to callouts, collaborates with retail loss prevention professionals and the retail industry, applies for and executes search warrants and/or investigative subpoenas, analyzes data in all forms, processes crime scenes and collects evidence, conducts field interviews/interrogations, completes follow-up investigative work to build a case file, assists prosecutors and testifies in court.
The Agent also provides training to law enforcement agencies and public safety sectors (both private and governmental) throughout the state.
