Job Announcement:
Middletown Police Department Certified Patrol Officer

Applicants must be active P.O.S.T. certified police officers in good standing with their current department or officers who retired in good standing.
Out of state P.O.S.T. certified applicants will be considered pending compliance approval through the Rhode Island Police Officers Commission of Standards and Training.
Minimum Requirements for Patrol Officer:
- Must be at least 21 years of age on or before appointment
- Must be a United States Citizen
- Must possess a High School Diploma or GED Certificate
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain it as a condition of employment
- Must be P.O.S.T. certified police officer in good standing with their department OR officer who retired in good standing with their department
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment psychological exam
Upon appointment to the position, must reside within a 20-mile radius of the Middletown Police Department and/or have the ability to respond in 30 minutes.

- Copy of your Valid Driver's License
- Copy of your P.O.S.T. certification and/or Academy Graduation Certificate
- Copy of your Birth Certificate or proof of citizenship
- Copy of your High School Diploma or GED Certificate
- Completed, signed and notarized Permission for Release of Information for Criminal Records (Form located in DOCUMENTS)
- Fitness Test Medical Certificate Form completed and signed by a physician (Form located in DOCUMENTS)
- Proof of Veteran's Status - if applicable (Eligibility requirements located in DOCUMENTS)
- Proof of Residency - if applicable (Eligibility requirements located in DOCUMENTS)
- Official Transcript from an accredited college or university - if applicable
Certified Officer Applicant Selection Process:
- Electronic application submission
- Physical Agility Test
- Oral interview with Middletown Police Interview Panel
- Approval of Personnel Board and Town Administrator
- Background Investigation
- Conditional Offer of Employment
- Medical Examination
- Psychological Examination
One (1) year probation period including modified Field Training Evaluation Program with the department

Pre-employment Background Checks, Physical and Psychological Examinations, a Pre-employment Drug Test along with additional interviews will be administered for those candidates selected for further consideration and who have accepted a conditional offer of employment. You will not be eligible to continue in the selection process if you do not pass these examinations.
An extensive Background Investigation will be completed to evaluate a candidate's employment, education, military service, criminal record and behavioral history to ensure each candidate meets a high moral and ethical standard. You will not be eligible to continue in the selection process if you do not pass this portion of the process.
Upon successful completion of one (1) year as a Probationary Police Officer, you will be appointed as a regular member of the Middletown Police Department. Information about the FOP Lodge #21 Collective Bargaining Agreement can be found at www.middletownri.com/contracts
