Mansfield Township (Burlington County) - Special Law Enforcement Officer III

The Mansfield Township Police Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Class III Special Law Enforcement Officer (SLEO III) for the 2026–2027 school year.

Class III SLEO officers are assigned to Mansfield Township Elementary Schools and play a vital role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities include providing school security, fostering positive relationships within the school community, and responding to incidents and emergencies as needed.

If appointed, officers will serve under the direction of the Chief of Police and be assigned to school facilities to perform school safety and security functions. Class III officers possess the same law enforcement authority as full-time police officers while on duty and within the scope authorized by New Jersey law.

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be a retired law enforcement officer less than 65 years of age, who served as a duly qualified, fully-trained, full-time officer in any municipality or county of this State or as a member of the New Jersey State Police.
• Must have been separated from that prior service in good standing, within 3 years of appointment to this position (necessary to have a letter of good standing issued by the agency from which officer retired, listing the date and type of retirement. A copy will be submitted to the PTC).
• Possess a NJ Police Training Commission Basic Police Officer Certification of NJ State Police Academy Certification.                                            
• Must be physically capable of performing the functions of the position, determined in accordance with the Police Training Commission.
• Must be a citizen of the United States.
• Must possess a valid New Jersey Driver License.
• Must successfully pass a background investigation to include a medical exam, drug screen and psychological exam.
• School Resource Officer Training will be required within one year of employment. Preference may be given to officers who are already SRO trained and have served as an SRO.
