Certified Police Officer / Lateral Transfer
The Lee Police Department is seeking new Officers to join the ranks at the Lee Police Department. Our agency provides a full spectrum of public safety services to a vibrant and quintessential New England community. Our staff is focused on keeping our community safe and secure, while maintaining an emphasis on public engagement.
The Lee Police Department consists of a Chief of Police, Lieutenant, Sergeants, Patrol Officers, Reserve Police Officers, Administrative Assistant and Mental Health Co-Responder. Members of this agency are resolute professionals that care deeply for the community they serve.

We are seeking qualified and experienced lateral transfer candidate(s), to fill two (2) full-time Police Officer positions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Lateral candidates must be graduates of a Massachusetts State Police Academy or graduate of a FULL TIME Municipal Police Academy from Massachusetts or other approved state
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Have or be able to obtain a valid Massachusetts LTC Firearms
- Live with-in 50 miles of the town of Lee at time of hire, and
- Possess a high school diploma.
Additionally, all candidates must be able to obtain or remain State certified to work as a Police Officer, pursuant to state of Massachusetts POST requirements, must have the highest integrity, have good written and oral communication skills, and the ability to solve problems in high stress situations. The selection process will include oral board interview(s), background check, medical exam, and psychological examination.
Candidate must have the ability to work a variable schedule to include nights, weekends, and holidays.

- $1200.00 annual uniform allowance,

- Starting annual salary will be $51,500 to $79.248, based on approved prior full time law enforcement experience, plus evening or overnight shift differentials, college education stipends, longevity stipends and other additional contractual compensation benefits.
- Additionally, our staff is truly fortunate, in that we will be delivering public safety services from a new, and modern Public Safety complex, scheduled to open in March 2027.
Selection Process
The Lee Police Department follows a structured and legally compliant selection process, overseen by the Selection Coordinator and Chief of Police. Below is an overview of the steps candidates can expect:
1. Application & Eligibility
- Candidates apply through the approved platform (www.PoliceApp.com).
- Lateral transfer applicants must be certified full-time officers with MPTC/POST certification. Or able to obtain at time of hire.
- Entry-level applicants must meet minimum qualifications (age 21+, HS diploma, driver’s license, etc.).
2. Oral Board Interview
- Conducted by a panel including the Chief, Selection Coordinator, Sergeant, and Union President.
- Standardized questions and scoring criteria are used.
- Additional points considered for education, military service, language skills, EMT certification, residency, etc.
- Top candidates (up to 3 entry-level, or top scoring lateral) move forward.
3. Background Investigation
- Comprehensive investigation including criminal, employment, and personal history.
- Includes POST certification review and national police officer decertification index review.
- Conducted by trained background investigators.
- Lateral transfer candidates will be asked to complete a pre-employment background packet.
4. Executive Interview
- Finalist(s) meet with the Chief of Police and Town Administrator.
- Standardized questions and follow-ups based on prior steps.
5. Conditional Offer
- Top candidate(s) may receive a conditional offer of employment.
6. Final Screening
- All candidates receiving a conditional offer must successfully complete:
- Psychological evaluation by a licensed professional
- Medical exam and drug/alcohol screening
7. Academy & Probation
- Lateral hires must successfully complete departmental field training and serve a 1-year probation period from hire date.
