The Lawrence Township Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Class III Special Law Enforcement Officer (SLEO III) for the 2026–2027 school year. SLEO III officers are assigned to schools within the Lawrence Township Public School District and are responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. Duties include school security, building positive relationships with students and staff, and responding to incidents and emergencies as needed. Applicants must meet all requirements established by the New Jersey Police Training Commission and applicable state law.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be a retired law enforcement officer under the age of 65
- Must have retired in good standing from a New Jersey law enforcement agency within the past three (3) years
- Must have previously served as a duly qualified, fully trained, full-time police officer in a New Jersey municipality, county, or as a member of the New Jersey State Police
- Must possess a valid New Jersey Police Training Commission (PTC) Basic Police Officer Certification or NJ State Police Academy Certification
- Must possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license
- Must successfully complete a background investigation, medical examination, psychological evaluation, and drug screening
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position
- Must complete NJ Safe Schools Resource Officer training if not already certified
