Egg Harbor Township Police Department
Is Now Seeking Qualified and Certified Officers for the Position of:
Police Officer
Must possess a valid N.J. PTC Certification; waiver eligible Class II Certification; or be currently enrolled in a full-time Police Academy.
The Egg Harbor Township Police Department is pleased to announce that it will be accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.
A non-refundable application fee of $35.00 will be charged to all applicants.

SALARY:
An active police officer from another law enforcement agency may laterally transfer to a step level between one and five of the pay scale established in the current agreement between the Township of Egg Harbor and the New Jersey State Policemen's Benevolent Association, Inc., Mainland Local 77:
- Step 1: $50,000
- Step 2: $55,000
- Step 3: $60,000
- Step 4: $66,000
- Step 5: $71,000
- 13-Step Top Salary: $126,600*
*Based off current contractual agreement due to expire 12/2026.
Overtime opportunities are available at an increased hourly pay rate.
INCENTIVES:
College Incentive Program
Every Police Officer shall have one hundred percent (100%) of their college credits paid for upon successful completion of their undergraduate and graduate courses. In addition, the Township shall reimburse the Police Officer for one hundred percent (100%) for the required textbooks upon successful completion of their undergraduate and graduate classes (Limitations Apply).
College Degree Stipend
Annual Stipend of $2,500.00 for possessing a Master's Degree.
Uniform Allowance
Annual Uniform reimbursement allowance of $800.00.
Training
Minimum of 60 hours of in-service training provided annually in areas including, but not limited to Firearms & Weapons proficiency, Emergency Vehicle Operations, Defensive Tactics, Active Shooter Response, De-Escalation/Use of Force and Officer Resiliency.
CAREER ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES:
Police Officers employed by the Egg Harbor Township Police Department who exhibit a sound work ethic and commitment to the profession will have the opportunity to receive advanced training and assignment in select specialized units, that come with additional incentives depending on assignment, such as:
- Criminal Investigations Bureau
- Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team
- Hostage-Crisis Negotiator
- K9 Unit
- Bicycle Unit
- Motorcycle Unit
- Traffic Safety Unit
- Community Policing
- Field Training Unit
- Defensive Tactics, Weapons & Physical Fitness Instructor
QUALIFICATIONS FOR POLICE OFFICER:
Applicants must:
- Be a U.S. citizen.
- Be a resident of New Jersey.
- Be at least 21 years of age and no older than 35 years of age at their time of appointment (N.J.S.A. 43:16A-3(1)).
- Must possess a valid N.J. PTC Certification; waiver eligible Class II Certification; or be currently enrolled in a full-time Police Academy.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED, prior to the date of appointment as an officer.
- Possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license.
- Have no criminal record.
- Must pass a physical fitness indicator test, with minimum scores of:

- 1.5 mile run in 15 minutes, 55 seconds or less.
- 300-meter run in 70.1 seconds or less.
- Vertical jump of 15 inches or more.
- 24 push-ups in 1 minute or less.
- 28 sit-ups in 1 minute or less.

- Must pass a physical examination conducted by a physician selected by Egg Harbor Township.
- Must be of sound moral character verified by a background investigation.
- Must pass an oral interview with the Chief of Police/Selection Committee.
- Must pass an oral interview with the Mayor and Township Committee.
- Must pass a psychological examination.
TESTING PROCEDURES (Sequence May Vary):
- Physical fitness indicator test.
- Background investigation.
- Oral interview with the Chief of Police/Selection Committee.
- Oral interview with the Mayor and Township Committee.
- Psychological exam.
- Medical exam.
- Drug screening.
