Special Law Enforcement Officer, Class II

FALL/WINTER/SPRING Employment Opportunity for certified SLEO II Officers following the Summer Season

The Egg Harbor Township Police Department is accepting applications for the position of part-time Special Law Enforcement Officer (SLEO) Class II.  The primary responsibility for this position will be to supplement the police services provided to our agency's service population.  The nature of police services includes, but are not limited to general patrol duties, provide assistance to our full-time patrol officers, traffic services, parking enforcement, security of persons, property, or special events, general desk duties for those visiting our agency to report incidents or crimes, arrestee processing and transportation, etc.  Hours for this position will be limited to no more than 28 hours per week. The hourly wage is $22.00 to $25.00, based on experience and qualifications, as determined by the Chief of Police.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a current and valid New Jersey Police Training Commission Certification for SLEO Class II
  • Must have NO binding obligations to another police department, including, but not limited to time in service and/or financial obligations.
  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Be a resident of NJ.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be of sound moral character verified by a background investigation.
  • Must pass an oral interview.
  • Must pass a Psychological Examination. Documentation of a previous examination may be acceptable at the discretion of the Chief of Police.
  • Must have a flexible schedule.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide police services to visitors who arrive to our agency to report incidents, offenses, crimes, or anything thereof.
  • Assist patrol officers with general duties associated with the patrol function.
  • Assist with administrative tasks commonly associated with firearms background investigations.
  • Assist with agency's property/evidence function.
  • Reporting and addressing emergencies in accordance with department policies.
  • Transport and guard prisoners.
  • Effective operation of both handheld and stationary metal-detection devices.
  • Any other duty related to the proper functioning and operation of the Egg Harbor Township Police Department.
  • Maintaining required certifications and proficiency in all police related areas, including the proper use and handling of authorized firearms.
  • Performing all assigned duties in accordance with Egg Harbor Township Police Department policies and approved training.
